Police spokesperson Sadiq Aden told journalists on Thursday evening that the police launched a massive operation in the outskirts of Mogadishu where they captured militant cells.
"Following intelligence from the locals, government forces apprehended four al-Shabab militants who were in charge of collecting so-called zakawat (tax) from the public," Aden said.
The security forces also recovered improvised explosive devices during the operation aimed at flushing out al-Shabab militants in the area.
Aden added that the police will hand over the detainees to the intelligence agencies.
The latest incident comes amid a surge of assassinations and roadside bombs in the restive capital Mogadishu. Enditem
